Inaugural Dinner 2009
Inaugural Alumni Dinner 2009
The Global Immersion Programme (GIP) was first launched in 2004. Since then, it has expanded and has taken more students away from their comfort zones, providing them with the holistic world vision that would be useful in today’s globalized age.
The GIP Alumni Dinner took place on 15th December 2008, at the Nanyang Executive Centre (NEC). 137 guests turned up at the event. And we were honored to have Professor Dr Er Meng-Hwa, as our guest of honor, to grace the occasion. He started the night with a speech about how the global immersion programme has grown steadily and benefitted the students tremendously. The president of the GIP Student Club, Mr. Yong Wan Quan also delivered his speech to share with the audience on the objectives of the club.
The dinner was a roaring success, where guests mingled over a buffet line. The event provided a platform for the graduates and undergraduates to share their precious and diverse experiences. The dinner also allowed its guests to meet up with old friends whom had participated in their GIP tour, and offered an opportunity for them to relive that temporary stint away from home. Many of the undergraduates gained valuable insights from their seniors’ thoughts on how the program benefitted their employment and career prospects. The graduates also shared their current working experiences with the undergraduates.
The games added zest to the dinner and livened up the atmosphere. Respective tables were pitted against one another as guests attempted to guess the country; the scenic location of the photographs which were shown. Besides outwitting their opponents, guests also had to be quick physically when they raced to be the first in fetching the items featured in following footages. The third game had our guests busy with word formations. The club is extremely grateful to our guests who were enthusiastic and sportingly responsive, all of which added to the success of the dinner.
A lucky draw was held, to show our appreciation to the guests who took the time and dedication to attend our event. The second runner-up received a set of Creative speakers, while the runner-up bagged a Samsung MP3 player. The grand prize winner walked away with an Ipod Nano and many others received consolation prizes of $50 shopping vouchers. A token of appreciation was awarded to our guest of honour too.
The GIP student club is extremely grateful to all who have helped make the dinner possible. We hope that this event will be organised annually to ensure a strong bond between the Alumni and undergraduates. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our guests, Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) , Career & Attachment Office (CAO), Global Immersion Programme Office and Sens Services for their support in making this event a success.
